Doctor Who and Torchwood Summary Executions - actual quotes from fanfiction summaries, researched by [livejournal.com profile] starkiller. By turns hilarious, cringe-inducing and just plain mind-boggling.

I briefly wished for links to the fics - and then hastily retracted the wish. The summaries provide just the right amount of insanity. Any more and I'd be calling for the brain bleach.

I've just encountered the original Daleks! And the First Doctor and Susan, and Barbara and Ian! So much glee!

The first 4-episode arc (The Unearthly Child) I found very disappointing. I wanted to like it, I really did, but it completely failed to spark my imagination. The first bit, set on earth and showing how Barbara and Ian end up in the TARDIS, was fine, but the rest of it? Gah! Dated, dreary, and unconvincing - I really couldn't care less about any of the cavemen and worse, I was beginning to find the four main characters irritating. Not good. It also didn't help that I'd read a summary of the story: no suspense, and the pace was excruciatingly mind-numbingly slow. I couldn't see the magic at all.

Anyway, I persevered, mainly since I knew that the second arc (The Mutants) introduces the Daleks. It's set on an alien planet (no quarries so far!) rather than on prehistoric earth - and hey, even 1963-vintage Daleks have got to be better than the cavemen I'd just suffered through, right? I've just watched the first two episodes. And the squee has finally set in! I'm happy to say I'm slightly creeped out. Petrified forests populated by mysterious mutated aliens who are presumably well-intentioned, our heroes suffering from radiation sickness and a race against time to get to the drugs in time, mysterious empty cities with claustrophobic corridors that have doors that slide silently shut behind you, and the very first appearance of the Daleks. Yay!

I'm having to tear myself away from the computer to go to bed when what I really want to do is watch the rest of the arc. *sigh* Tomorrow. *g*
