A near miss...

.
I had to book a table at a restaurant yesterday, unexpectedly in Italian - and it amused me no end that I managed to avoid committing an Aubreyism. In Post Captain, Jack mystifies a couple of Frenchmen by referring to having "livré une table - booked it". The equivalent in Italian would have been librare una tavola. *g* I'm pretty chuffed that my mind managed to come up with "prenotare".

And yes, the meal was great. Smoked salmon, a main course of fried squid, octopus and prawns with salad and Sam Gamgee-style chips, followed by lemon sorbet and an espresso. Pretty damn good.

PS I haven't been around much. Will resurface in a week and a half, hopefully, when the 22 training course participants go home and I get my life back.

You mean to say that you've been smutless all this time? ;)

Mmm, squid.

No. I've been reading smut quietly and not commenting much. Or posting.

I don't think all the squid in the world could compensate for being smutless. Oh help, why am I now thinking "tentacle porn"?

Now that would be really kinky, and rather unfriendly--eating fried squid (in my case, it's usually salt and pepper squid) and octopus and reading tentacle porn at the same time. Poor little tentacles.

Or how about food and sex obtained contemporaneously from the same individual? Female preying mantises manage it!

What's salt and pepper squid, BTW? I'm imagining raw squid with just a sprinkling of pepper and salt... I think I'll have mine fried, please!

It's a Chinese way of cooking squid. You grind salt together with black peppercorns, Szechuan peppercorns and chili flakes, mix in some corn flour, coat the prepared squid (cut into long, thin strips) and deep fry it. It's delicious. Fried calamari by any other name. :)
