Writer's Block: Desert Island Time

[Error: unknown template qotd]

1. Life on the Murder Scene, because, well, MCR! I can't survive without my regular fix. The video diary is what changed me from casual fan to head-over-heels crazy fangirl, and the other disc has the videos and "making of"s, so yes, it's an absolute must.

2. The English Patient. Still my favourite film of all time.

3. Slings & Arrows, all 3 seasons.

4. Doctor Who, series 1. Because I am spellbound by Christopher Eccleston as Nine and because the quality of the whole 13-episode run was just amazing.

5. Master and Commander, for its very fine acting by Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany, and for Peter Weir's compelling and lovingly detailed creation on screen of Aubrey and Maturin's world.

But I'm REALLY not satisfied with this list because it leaves out Due South, and the Lord of the Rings movies, and a host of other stuff that I love. So no desert islands for me, not even magical ones, thank you very much. I'll be perfectly happy sitting right here, marooned in my own living room with not a palm tree in sight.

If this desert island has electricity it probably has access to Amazon. Order as many DVDs as you like!

Failing access to Amazon, I vote for a communal marooning - that way we can share dvds. And books. And conversation. This is actually sounding like a most attractive proposition...

Is Rupert marooned? Because I'd want my island to be quite a bit bigger than his appears to be.

He's brooding over the distance to Tol Eressea (in my LotR/Rupert verse).

Good choices, though I would put in Lord of the Rings instead of Master and Commander - and of course there are so many things I'd miss!

I remain spellbound by Eccleston as Nine. I was watching the 1996 movie with Paul McGann today and trying to compare them. I couldn't... I couldn't get my brain to imagine any connection between them. Even though I like Paul McGann, generally speaking. But my brain was having such conceptual difficulties. (Not just because I was watching it in French.)

See that's why we need to make sure it's a communal marooning, so we can share stuff. It'd be heaven!

Do you find it harder to connect PMG's Doctor to Nine than any of the other Doctors? I've only watched half the film and thought it was pretty dire, but I still rather liked him as Eight. He's playful and joyful, and I actually like the contrast with Nine. It makes what happened in the Time War, what he had to do and what it did to him, all the more terrible, don't you think?

Hee, the alarm on my new mobile has just gone off - Demolition Lovers. :)

PS Sorry about the duplicate comment - as often happens, the italics got away from me there.

Yes. I'd like that island.

I liked him, but... Not sure about the connection with the others. Not that I've seen the old classic Doctors. I think it was that he seemed gentle. Nine and Ten can be gentle, but only rarely, and they have to put effort into it.

I agree about the effectof the Time War, though: if you think of Eight as pre-trauma and Nine as the man who emerged on the other side.

Desert Islands

Let me get this right:
a) You live on an island (or is that "in" an island).
b) The sea is a few short kilometres from your door.
c) There are palm trees.
d) The climate is almost (in summer anyway) tropical.
e) You have all mod cons laid on, including deliveries from Amazon.
Sounds pretty perfect to me!

Hi again! *waves* I do have a question or two re Malta:

1) What's a good café in Valletta or Sliema?

2) What's your favourite beach?

3) What's your favourite place?

4) What clothes are people wearing right now? i.e. what do I need to pack? Is it hot even at night? Do people dress formally or casually? Do I need to be appropriate if we visit a church?

5) Are some beaches pebbly or stone, and should we bring flipflops or similar to walk on them?

6) Can you buy English books?

7) What's a great thing to eat that you would recommend??

Thank you!!! ;-)
