Day 2- Favorite song off of Three Cheers

This is really really hard. Because more than their other albums (except maybe TBP), Revenge feels like a coherent whole to me. And if this is what's meant by a concept album, then hurrah for concept albums. Which doesn't make it any easier to identify a favourite track...

I love how fast many of the songs are. I love Gerard's screamy vocals, and the guitars are just fantastic. I remember it taking me some time to get really familiar with all the tracks, because the album as a whole was so very different from anything I'd ever listened to before. And I like that. I like having to work at things that end up deserving the input - and this album does, in spades!

This isn't hard, it's impossible. No, really. Can I maybe identify my less favourite songs? Helena (I love the video but that's not what today's question is about), The Ghost of You (though the live version on Life on the Murder Scene is a favourite - I said this was impossible), and Cemetery Drive. And I always think that I don't like To the End as much as I actually do. The rest of the tracks? Sheer utter brilliance and I refuse to choose.

Standout moments? The beginning of Hang 'Em High. ALL of Prison. And I'm Not Okay - I still find having an agressively belted out chorus of "I'm Not Okay" audacious and fucking amazing. The lyrics are magic on this album. "Gaze into her killing jar, I sometimes stare for hours. She even poked the holes so I can breathe." - The Jetset Life is Going to Kill You. "Don't I look pretty walking down the street in the best damn dress I own?" - Give 'Em Hell Kid. Also "Love is the red, the rose on your coffin door, what's life like bleeding on the floor?" and "Preach all you want but who's going to save me? I keep a gun on the book you gave me. Hallelujah, lock and load."- both from Thank You for the Venom. "Another knife in my hands, a stain that never comes off the sheets. Clean me up I'm so dirty, babe" from I Never Told You What I Do for a Living and the whole glorious blood-soaked second half of this song.

Oh, and the looong song titles that don't actually appear in the songs? For some reason, that thrills me as much as anything. I know. I'm weird. *g*

In short, a perfect collision of amazing music and inspired fucked-up lyrics delivered with passion and conviction. This is the band that saves lives.

ETA: a gorgeous bit from The Jetset Life is Going to Kill You: the unexpectedly quiet half-minute or so between 02:07 and 02:38. Wonderfully allusive lyrics - and a brief interlude of sweetness, musically if not lyrically:

"Pull the plug - well, I'd like to learn your name.
When holding on, I hope you'll do the same, aww sugar.
Slip into the tragedy, you've spun this chamber dry."
