rosiespark: (Admit that you want to!)
.
I'm stuck. I've made valiant efforts and voted in almost all the categories I'm interested in before tomorrow's deadline for the Daydreams BSG Fic Awards. But I'm stuck on Best Fanfiction.

I think it's bacause:

(a) Best Fanfiction is too broad a category, too vast and sweeping.
(b) the nominated fics are almost all brilliant - how does one choose?

Bah! At this rate, I'm going to end up not voting, which would be a shame after all the trouble I went to in nominating my favourite fics. Maybe I'll just close my eyes and stab the printout with a pin. *g*

I've just got home from watching The Merchant of Venice. Overall, I found it disappointing. I mean, I quite liked it. But I kept waiting for it to really engage me, for it to click, and it didn't. Very sad, because I really wanted it to be brilliant, particularly as [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako liked it so much.

Things I did like:

- the scenery. ::swoons:: Venice is one of my absolute favourite places. The Rialto, shots of the old marketplace beside the Grand Canal, the view of the Doge's Palace across the water, and just the general atmosphere of mist, canals and bridges.
- the slashiness of Antonio/Bassanio. Nice.
- for the first time, I could see a family resemblance between Joe Fiennes and big brother Ralph. I think it was the straight hair. I still much prefer Ralph - but it was neat to spot the resemblance.
- Jeremy Irons, half naked, tied to a chair. And fainting and having to be revived. Woohoo!
- Portia was the only character I really warmed to. I haven't seen Lynn Collins in anything else: will have to keep an eye on what she does next.

::rereads post and wonders whether I am incurably shallow::

Because [livejournal.com profile] semyaza did it and where she leads, I'm honoured to follow. In some things, at least. ;)

Your Slanguage Profile

British Slang: 75%
Aussie Slang: 50%
Victorian Slang: 50%
Prison Slang: 25%
Canadian Slang: 0%
New England Slang: 0%
Southern Slang: 0%

British slang is where it should be, at the top of the list. I also did a lot of guessing. Apparently I know a lot more prison slang than Canadian, New England and Southern slang combined. Stop looking at me suspiciously!
