I wasn't expecting very much from this show. In fact, I only ended up owning the dvds of the first half of season one because I came across them secondhand in Edinburgh and thought that, well, something that [livejournal.com profile] brynnmck posts so enthusiastically about was probably worth a try. After all, she wasn't wrong about the magic of due South or Slings and Arrows or the rest of Canada fandom that has kept me happily occupied for so many months on end, was she?

So I brought the SPN dvds back in my suitcase, and then they languished unwatched and unloved, gathering dust in my living room for almost a year...

I wish I could remember what it was that prompted me to sit down and start watching, apart from the fact that I had just acquired a shiny new LCD television. It's not like I didn't (still do!) have tonnes of other stuff waiting to be watched.

Anyway, just over two months later and I'm just finishing my second watch-through of every episode of SPN's three seasons, and I have to say how impressed I am with this show. I wasn't expecting it to be nearly so intelligent, consistently well-acted or emotionally satisfying as it's proved to be. It's also interesting to note that I am apparently not such a wuss as I thought I was - the show has its share of creepy moments and its jump-out-of-your-seat moments, but so far, at least, my nights have been free of spirits, vampires, demons and other assorted nasties. Sam and Dean Winchester, OTOH, would be extremely welcome in my dreams. Heh.

So this post is by way of saying thank you to Eric Kripke, who created the show and who apparently keeps a tight creative rein on things - wise man! - and to everyone else involved in production. And, of course, to Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. ♥♥♥♥
