What strikes me most about this story is Archie's iron-willed control over himself--over his body, his words to Clive and Bush, over his own self-doubt--in happy juxtaposition with your own iron-willed control over your language. It's all of a piece and makes the story read so effortlessly. I also like the way that you stud the narrative with revelations, those moments when the penny drops for each of the characters, and yet none of the characters manages to say anything. The action happens between the lines. Clive's words are constantly cut off, Archie won't allow his own thoughts free rein, Bush can't do more than imply what it is he wants to say. It's all about control. Very cool, and I'd also love to see what you would do with Horatio/Archie interactions in a much earlier story. I don't mean 'slash' necessarily, just Archie and Horatio saying nothing and meaning everything. :)
