The weather has been weird today. When I got to the beach at around twelve, it was very hot and sunny. About an hour later the sun went in behind a bank of ominous grey clouds and there was thunder rumbling around, but no rain. I stuck it out on the beach, and after a little while, the sun came back out. Then this evening, there was the most spectacular light show in the sky. Lightning like strobe lights as I drove back from the vet's, and everyone predicting a cataclysmic storm. So I got the cats in and checked the rainwater drain in the courtyard, and prepared to sit tight and let the weather do its worst. Two hours later, and all we've had is one short sharp shower, and the stars are out again!

Pixel really does seem to be improving - the wound has stopped leaking pus and is starting to close up, she's eating a little more and she's even started washing herself a bit - all reassuring signs. She's still on daily antibiotic injections. The vet admitted yesterday that the current antibiotic was her last card. What she actually said was that it was her "last straw" - either a direct translation from German or a blip caused by constantly juggling three languages in her head, I'd say.

Today was a good day - the beach was bliss this morning, just me and a couple of anglers minding their own business. And I stopped at the mechanic to get the brake fluid topped up, which I have been needing to do for around a week, as well as picking a gorgeous bunch of grapes at my parents' house. And I read a fair bit of HMS Surprise at the beach, and topped up my suntan - all in all a most satisfactory day!

I suppose, from the infection's pov, the antibiotic might well be the last straw! If the wound is closing up, that sounds very hopeful.

Mmm. Sun, water, cosy book to read. Bliss. :)

Hmm, okay - last straw as in the antibiotic going "die, die, you filthy little vermin!" as it wreaks havoc on the hordes of fleeing bacteria?

Gah! Yesterday already seems like a dream. After work, the daily vet visit and my biweekly supermarket shop, I'm wilting. Will probably put my feet up and watch either FotR or RotK. difficult choice, that!

Last straw as in the bacteria throwing up their hands and saying "That's it. That's the final straw. We can't take it anymore; we're leaving."

I don't think I could manage RotK angst right at the moment. FotR--great idea. Must go and buy 'Hidalgo'.

I was doing the antibiotic's pov. Since you seem to have the bacteria's reactions down pat. *g*

Probably the first half of FotR, and then to bed at a reasonable plan. Well, that's the plan, anyway. Ask me tomorrow what time I got to bed...

Hidalgo's on my wishlist, along with, literally, about a hundred other things - it keeps growing faster than I can knock things off it, which is probably an inherent (and scary) quality of wishlists. I'm very tempted to order The Calcium Kid dvd, since it probably won't be shown here and I've heard good things about Orli as Jimmy. Aaargh, I can't keep doing this. Seven O'Brians followed by the Hornblower dvds are more than enough for this month's credit card bill!

I'd rather be bacteria at the moment--aggressive and invasive.

I buy very few DVDs. I just feel like something mindlessly entertaining, and 'Hidalgo' fits the bill. I won't be buying any more until PotC and the EE of RotK, but the latter is three months away. *sob*

Oh dear, you're still feeling pissed off. I was hoping you were feeling better! Would a hug help or are you feeling too prickly? ::hugs you anyway::

Hugs are always welcome. :) *hugs back*

But, yes, I'm pissed off, tired and my face is aching. Stupid sinuses. Well, I hope it's sinuses. I thought I was getting a bit better yesterday but then the shit hit the fan and....

...So glad to hear Pixel seems to be feeling better. Is it possible that the missing shrapnel went all the way through and exited? It must be a great relief to you, after all the worry of the last few days to see her behaving something like normally.Best wishes.

She is feeling better, just hope it lasts. Unfortunately there are still 3 lead pellets in her, as shown by the x-ray pics. But they don't seem to be bothering her - the two that are embedded in muscle will encapsulate, the vet says, and the mysterious one in her jaw (or wherever!) can hopefully stay there, since it doesn't seem to be causing any problems. Thanks for the best wishes!
