I'm back!

I have a new keyboard, and this is the first thing I'm typing with it - and I don't think I like it. It's just...harder to type - there's more resistance to the keys, which are also not high enough above the flat bits of the keyboard. /grump.

Last couple of days have not been a good start to the year. Billy has a bad foot, he can't put any weight on it. And he's been hiding in the wardrobe - never a good sign. (Though my mum did suggest that maybe Billy thinks he's Aslan. *g*) So yesterday a friend of mine who is a vet came over and tried to have a look at him. I say "tried" because after repeatedly having to haul Billy out (carefully!) from under the bath/wardrobe/insert inconvenient article of furniture, and numerous tussles when the vet tried to actually examine him while I held him and he wriggled like the proverbial eel, I got bitten and we gave up in despair. I think it's his paw, down near his toes - probably a bite from a fight. So he's on Amoxycillin and I'm hoping to avoid taking antibiotics myself this time. *sigh*

And if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, on my way to bed at around eleven, I discovered that water was trickling in through the wall and the top of the stone alcove where my stereo lives. Rainwater, you understand - and it had been raining most of the day. The stereo is fine, thankfully, but a whole stack of cd's got soaked and the floor was awash. Cue disaster response measures with lots of floorcloths and buckets and a plastic bowl, and a phone call to the person resposible for the works being done on the (empty) house next door.

It turns out that they picked out the pointing from between the stones in the courtyard on the other side of the wall - and didn't re-do it. In what is the rainy season here. Complete and utter imbeciles. "Men are so painfully stupid sometimes!" - Starbuck said it best. *g*

They obviously can't re-point the wall while it's this wet, so I'm waiting for the workmen to come and cover the offending bit of courtyard wall with plastic sheeting. Grrrrr! I do have a firm promise from the guy in charge to get the problem fixed as soon as there's a dry interval. But the rain shows no sign of stopping today, and the forecast isn't good.

[livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight, you must be wondering about your fic - so sorry it's taken all this time. I have done it, on paper, but I need to transcribe my comments - now that I have a functioning keyboard again. So I'll get it back to you by later today, or by tomorrow at the very latest.

No problem at all! And let me know about the other thing, the thing I e-mailed you excessively about because I don't think before I hit "send."

Will do - when I have time to think about it! *g*

Beta is done up to section 4 (yay!), and I'm taking a break from it. I really like it. (double yay!) But I'm afraid it will be tomorrow, though I had hoped to get it done tonight. Sorry!

Welcome back, and I hope the excitement dies down a little.

Your icon! Ioan looks the way I feel - he may have intended it as a sultry smoulder, but to me that's such an "oh god, what can possibly have gone wrong now?" look. Hee.

Aww, poor thing. Poor, poor Billy. Let's hope it's just the last threads of ick from 2005.

Thanks for the sympathy, from me and Billy both.

::heaves huge tired sigh::

The plastic sheeting is in place and the dripping seems to have more or less stopped, even though it's just rained again. Fingers crossed!

What an annoying series of complications! I hope the place dries up soon, and that Billy paw just heals - I can't blame him for being touchy about it, I hate doctors too.

But he's a boy and she's a nice young lady doctor who stroked his head and told him he was sweet! *g*

I think the plastic sheeting's done the trick with the wall. ::hopes::

And the antibiotics should take care of Billy's bad paw. I hesitate to take him to the vet's clinic because he tends to panic even more in unfamiliar surroundings - they'd have to sedate him just to be able to examine the leg and take his temperature. Not good.

Aww. How could he resist? And he is sweet, too.

What a set of annoying happenings. I hope they go away and life is good again.

They got the plastic sheeting up by the evening and it seems to have worked. But I'm feeling exhausted today and am having trouble making it rhrough the day at work. Another three hours till I can go home...
