I'm printing out a map of the location of my hotel before going to bed. The flight is at 8.25 so I have to get up before six...

It's been One of Those Days. The Sicilian organisers were uncontactable all morning, so I only found out at around 2pm that no, they hadn't made a hotel reservation for me and that no, no-one was meeting me at the airport either. Cue much panicking over maps and online booking sites, until I finally worked out that the places my two meetings are being held are reasonably close to each other and to the city centre. Have booked a room for two nights at the Hotel Savona, which seems to be both cheap and central.

Okay, that's it - anything I've forgotten to pack, I'll have to buy in Catania. Am probably taking rather too many clothes, as well as Shards of Honour and Barrayar with me: the hotel has a reading room - with armchairs! - which I intend to use. Will report on the comfort (or otherwise!) of the armchairs when I get back on Saturday.

I'm going to miss the cats!

Thank you! In spite of a traumatic afternoon yesterday, I think it was worth it, overall. I got to go shopping on what remained of my allowance after I settled my hotel bill, and managed to amass quite a pile of loot. Successful shopping is balm to the bruised soul. ;)

HAVE FUN!

PS You're supposed to deliberately forget stuff so that you have an excuse to shop, not overpack! *sigh* Didn't I say that packing was an art form?

I had fun, and I also had one traumatically horrible afternoon, part of the meeeting, which I made up for today by blowing all that remained of my subsistence allowance on a shopping spree. So yes, I managed to come back with rather more stuff than I went with - hurrah! *g*

PS I forgot toothpaste, and had a tampon misadventure, in which I packed all my tampons in the bag that went in the hold rather than my cabin baggage. I had a moment of panic when I found out that the airport paharmacy was closed. And then Catania airport didn't have a pharmacy. I literally got off the bus and walked into a pharmacy, once I got into the centre. Today's shopping, I'm happy to say, was a lot more exciting. ;)

I'm glad that wasn't the only shopping you did. I would have been disappointed. :)

I had a similar misadventure in Germany once. My father thought it was absolutely hilarious. Me, not so much.

Oh, no, I didn't just buy toothpaste and tampons. I also had to buy a pair of tights and deoderant when mine ran out. *g*

More interesting loot comprised four sweaters, a bag, a pair of shoes and a maiolica plate in glorious red, orange and blue. Not to mention honey, pistachio nougat, coffee, tea, and 3 different pasta sauces in lovely little jars with pottery faces on them. Oh, and some very special pastries for my parents and brother... I went to the market in the morning and up the main shopping street in the afternoon, and also fitted in visits to the Duomo and Giardini Bellini. Not surprisingly, I'm still feeling tired! :)

See, now, that's much better shopping. Especially all the food items - usually when anyone in my family goes anywhere we come home with food.

Talking of which - I can't find your post (or was it a comment?) where you said you're going to be in Europe over the summer. Because, hey, how about coming to Malta for a bit? :D

I think LJ deleted it. Or I deleted it in a fit of flakiness, or something.

Is that an invitation, because if it is, you should know that I might just take you up on it. Feel free to back out now, if you want. ;)

I'm planning to be in Europe in June and / or July this year - I finish school near the end of April but have cert exams in May, so I'm not going to bother going away until they're done. (Besides, just once I'd like to be there when it's hot enough to swim!) I'm figuring a month in Greece, plus some four or five day side trips... but I really have no idea where I'm going to go.
