Am at home recovering from gastric flu and - joy! - watching lots of television.

Firefly - Finished the series yesterday, second time through. And went on to watch Serenity this evening - may I say how much more I appreciated it now that I have a good handle on the show. Ultimate test of just how far it got its claws into me - I cried. Good stuff.

Torchwood - Episode one of the second series played out pretty much like a crack fanfic. Which, since I'm not terribly emotionally invested in the show, is a Very Good Thing. Failed to see the allure of John ETA James Marsters but the combined pretteh of the Torchwood team more than made up for that. And Jack asked Ianto out! Squee!! Though he also seemed to be making a serious move on Gwen, judging by his reaction to the news that she got engaged to Rhys while Jack was "away". Not sure what's going on there. Not sure if Jack is sure what's going on there...

Due South - watched the Pilot with my mum the other evening, and found that worrying about whether she was enjoying it somewhat dulled the edge of my own enjoyment. Being too distracted to fully appreciate Benton Fraser at his youngest, most innocent and most cleancut is definitely NOT a Good Thing. *sigh* Maybe it would be better to limit our joint watching to shows in which I have less of an emotionally investment. Not that I think she'd be into Torchwood - hee! But stuff like Rome and Life on Mars, which I enjoy a lot but which are not so closely tied to my fannish heart that any hint of criticism makes me all verklempt, would possibly work better.

Battlestar Galactica - I wonder if I can manage to watch the Pilot and all three seasons before the new episodes start in March? Paradoxically, it's the earlier episodes I remember best. If I rewatch from the very beginning, I get all the joy of watching early Lee and Kara strike sparks off each other as well as (hopefully) getting the later seasons straight in my head. I say hopefully because the second and third seasons don't maintain the coherence and integrity of the first. Still, it should be fun. And hey, getting to watch Leoben now that CKR is one of my favourite actors? Now that's something I'm looking forward to. *g*

DUDE. I had the EXACT same experience over Christmas--I was watching dS with my family and I was getting SO FURIOUS that they weren't paying rapt attention! Hee. I think my mom liked it (she loved Vecchio--it was very cute); my dad, I don't think so much, for some reason. But yes. It is hard to watch things you irrationally love with people who might not feel the same way.

I also agree that I remember the early BSG episodes best. Because they were amazing and I watched them a lot. Heh. I was thinking the other day of the first time I saw KLG, and how freaking blown away I was. Amazing.

ETA that I'm sorry you're not feeling good! I hope you mend soon. *pets*

I don't get furious so much as withdraw like a poked snail. *g*

And yes, it's the irrationality of my huge, enormous (and probably dorky) love for dS that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to feel reasonable about it or to explain just why I adore it so much. It's very sad. OTOH, THANK GOD for having a fannish refuge of love here on lj. And thank YOU for making dS sound so intriguing that I just had to give it a try! ::smooshes you::

I will never forget the joy of watching the teaser to KLG Pt 1 - the music, the building of tension, the awful reveal that it's not actually Lee with Kara - just amazing.

PS Am feeling much better now. But the doctor has given me tomorrow off work too - yay, more tv!

Awww. Well, yes. There was quite a lot of pouting on my end. And inward seething. Like a five-year-old, really. It was really INCREDIBLY sad, and I knew as I was doing it that it was utterly ridiculous, and yet! MY SHOW! *hugs it protectively*

And you're welcome--thank you VERY much for very obligingly loving my show, too! *beams at you and smooshes back*

Yay for you feeling better! Enjoy your time off! :)

I used to be a Spike and JM fan, not so much anymore. I also totally failed to see the allure in that infamous clip.

Maybe it would be better to limit our joint watching to shows in which I have less of an emotionally investment.

I know! I've almost given up trying to pimp out shows I care about. On one hand, I really want to spread the glee. On the other hand, life is too short to get upset about other people's underwhelmed reactions. It's their loss anyway (right?).

Hee, one would think that negative opinions are the worst... well, they are, but I find it even harder to deal with people's "meh" reactions. I have to restrain myself from breaking out flow charts and essays and uhm, other supplementary materials. If I had my way, I would strap my victims people into a comfy chair, and pause every minute for "Did you get that? Pay attention! Why are your eyes wondering? This bit is going to be important! Let me explain why... What, why is your face turning blue?"

Ok, in reality I get very protective of my shows and prefer not to share. Like early BSG (up to Pegasus). Man, those early episodes were SO good. I watched them over and over and over. And when BSG started getting more media exposure, I no longer wanted to pimp the show. Grr-argh.

Get well soon, gastric flu is not fun. Take care of your tummy.

Have never watched Buffy, so this was the first time I was seeing JM on screen. I'm all for more boy-kissing - anywhere, everywhere! - but can think of better people for Capt. Jack to kiss. Like Ianto, frex, who was nicely snippy throughout the episode and who killed me with his silver teatray for Capt. John's weapons.

I think I'll just have to accept that I'm ridiculously sensitive to other people's reactions when it comes to sharing tv. I can't take having my squee dented! And some of the silier dS episodes are really very, um, silly unless one has a deep and abiding love for Fraser and both Rays. ::hugs show protectively:: Like Brynn, above. *g*

Hee. At least you'd use a comfy chair! And it would be for their own good, wouldn't it?

I want to see Jack kiss Ten. Or for Ten to kiss Jack. I really, really do. I'm not holding my breath. Just saying.

Like Ianto, frex, who was nicely snippy throughout the episode and who killed me with his silver teatray for Capt. John's weapons.

I loved the tea tray too. In series 1 I was underwhelmed with Ianto; in series 2 I think he's quite wonderful. I'd maybe be more excited over his relationship with Jack if only we saw more of it - can't blame a girl for hoping.

I'm ridiculously sensitive to other people's reactions when it comes to sharing tv.

Me too. [livejournal.com profile] iclysdale was making satirical comments about Torchwood last night and even though I was enjoying the company and the talk, I started feeling defensive about the show. Silly. Yeah. It's the price of wanting company for one's viewing pleasures.

I wish I could just visit you and we could watch Due South together! Rapt attention, yes, and suitable enjoyment, and them maybe watch it a second time.

PS

The not-fun bit is actually over; now I'm just feeling a bit under the weather. Feak and weeble, as my mum would say. *g* Which isn't bad at all, because it gives me the perfect excuse to sit around watching more tv without feeling guilty about all the things I ought to be doing. Ooh, I could watch the BSG pilot...

That is the reason I really can't pimp Due South to anyone at all: I'm so worried that they'll hate the show and I am waaaaaaay too emotionally attached to it to take that. I'm actually the same with Firefly, funnily enough.

The tv-watching is fair compensation for the icky side of things, which I won't go into detail about!*g*

Pretty icon, BTW. Makes me yearn to watch the LotR films again!

I'm so with you on that!

And I think you were the one who convinced me to get Due South, and I can assure you, I watch with great pleasure and affection. As do my husband and teenboy! But I can't see the slash at all. I like the friendship very much, but it's just not slashy to me. Maybe when we get to Ray Kowalski?

I'm really happy to be the one who hooked you on dS! ::beams::

I don't find Ray Vechhio and Fraser all that slashy - though I can be convinced otherwise by a good enough writer. I'd recommend [livejournal.com profile] brynnmck's Negotiations and Love Songs (http://brynnmck.livejournal.com/87779.html), as long as you've seen the episode Red, White or Blue.

Kowalski and Fraser - that's a different story. :) So you haven't got to season 3 yet?

Am over the gastric thingy but spent most of Sunday defrosting the freezer - it hadn't been done for at least three years, and it was well on its way to becoming a solid block of ice with drawers and odd food items embedded in it - and am still completely worn out.

I do love Firefly, if not with an all-consuming irrational passion. *g* And I didn't cry when Wash died, it was Zoe being to strong and heroic afterwards that got me... Waaaah.

Ugh, defrosting the freezer is one of the worst chores ever--right up there with cleaning the oven. Every time I slog through it I swear I won't let it get so bad again. That has yet to happen. ;)

Zoe's strength really got to me too. She is, as they say, made of awesome.

Is your freezer moving house with you? Because if it isn't, you could just abandon it undefrosted - YAY!

An abandoned freezer, with its drawers hanging out... Hee.

God no, it came with the apartment so it's staying here when I leave. It's stupidly tiny. The usable space in the entire thing--including the freezer--is probably less than you have in your fridge minus the freezer. Seriously. I hate it. The freezer is about the size of a shoe box. Ugh.

I think I'll kick it before I go, just for good measure.

Uh huh huh, you said "drawers." ;)

I defrosted my freezer a couple of weeks ago. It was amazing. There was something oddly organic stuck in the block of ice at the back - I couldn't figure out what it was till it was almost thawed - it turned out to be an old banana. It looked like some kind of dinosaur.

I don't cry at the death of Wash; it just makes me mad.

I cry during Firefly episodes, though. Well, a bit. It's like with Dunnett - the combination of drama and humour doesn't usually make me cry, but it gets me into the story beyond crying. If that makes sense.
