Am at home recovering from gastric flu and - joy! - watching lots of television.
Firefly - Finished the series yesterday, second time through. And went on to watch Serenity this evening - may I say how much more I appreciated it now that I have a good handle on the show. Ultimate test of just how far it got its claws into me - I cried. Good stuff.
Torchwood - Episode one of the second series played out pretty much like a crack fanfic. Which, since I'm not terribly emotionally invested in the show, is a Very Good Thing. Failed to see the allure ofJohn ETA James Marsters but the combined pretteh of the Torchwood team more than made up for that. And Jack asked Ianto out! Squee!! Though he also seemed to be making a serious move on Gwen, judging by his reaction to the news that she got engaged to Rhys while Jack was "away". Not sure what's going on there. Not sure if Jack is sure what's going on there...
Due South - watched the Pilot with my mum the other evening, and found that worrying about whether she was enjoying it somewhat dulled the edge of my own enjoyment. Being too distracted to fully appreciate Benton Fraser at his youngest, most innocent and most cleancut is definitely NOT a Good Thing. *sigh* Maybe it would be better to limit our joint watching to shows in which I have less of an emotionally investment. Not that I think she'd be into Torchwood - hee! But stuff like Rome and Life on Mars, which I enjoy a lot but which are not so closely tied to my fannish heart that any hint of criticism makes me all verklempt, would possibly work better.
Battlestar Galactica - I wonder if I can manage to watch the Pilot and all three seasons before the new episodes start in March? Paradoxically, it's the earlier episodes I remember best. If I rewatch from the very beginning, I get all the joy of watching early Lee and Kara strike sparks off each other as well as (hopefully) getting the later seasons straight in my head. I say hopefully because the second and third seasons don't maintain the coherence and integrity of the first. Still, it should be fun. And hey, getting to watch Leoben now that CKR is one of my favourite actors? Now that's something I'm looking forward to. *g*

Date: 2008-01-17 11:24 pm (UTC)I also agree that I remember the early BSG episodes best. Because they were amazing and I watched them a lot. Heh. I was thinking the other day of the first time I saw KLG, and how freaking blown away I was. Amazing.
ETA that I'm sorry you're not feeling good! I hope you mend soon. *pets*

Date: 2008-01-17 11:53 pm (UTC)And yes, it's the irrationality of my huge, enormous (and probably dorky) love for dS that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to feel reasonable about it or to explain just why I adore it so much. It's very sad. OTOH, THANK GOD for having a fannish refuge of love here on lj. And thank YOU for making dS sound so intriguing that I just had to give it a try! ::smooshes you::
I will never forget the joy of watching the teaser to KLG Pt 1 - the music, the building of tension, the awful reveal that it's not actually Lee with Kara - just amazing.
PS Am feeling much better now. But the doctor has given me tomorrow off work too - yay, more tv!

Date: 2008-01-18 12:04 am (UTC)Awww. Well, yes. There was quite a lot of pouting on my end. And inward seething. Like a five-year-old, really. It was really INCREDIBLY sad, and I knew as I was doing it that it was utterly ridiculous, and yet! MY SHOW! *hugs it protectively*
And you're welcome--thank you VERY much for very obligingly loving my show, too! *beams at you and smooshes back*
Yay for you feeling better! Enjoy your time off! :)

I know! I've almost given up trying to pimp out shows I care about. On one hand, I really want to spread the glee. On the other hand, life is too short to get upset about other people's underwhelmed reactions. It's their loss anyway (right?).
Hee, one would think that negative opinions are the worst... well, they are, but I find it even harder to deal with people's "meh" reactions. I have to restrain myself from breaking out flow charts and essays and uhm, other supplementary materials. If I had my way, I would strap
my victimspeople into a comfy chair, and pause every minute for "Did you get that? Pay attention! Why are your eyes wondering? This bit is going to be important! Let me explain why... What, why is your face turning blue?"Ok, in reality I get very protective of my shows and prefer not to share. Like early BSG (up to Pegasus). Man, those early episodes were SO good. I watched them over and over and over. And when BSG started getting more media exposure, I no longer wanted to pimp the show. Grr-argh.
Get well soon, gastric flu is not fun. Take care of your tummy.

Date: 2008-01-18 10:58 am (UTC)I think I'll just have to accept that I'm ridiculously sensitive to other people's reactions when it comes to sharing tv. I can't take having my squee dented! And some of the silier dS episodes are really very, um, silly unless one has a deep and abiding love for Fraser and both Rays. ::hugs show protectively:: Like Brynn, above. *g*

Date: 2008-02-15 04:29 pm (UTC)I want to see Jack kiss Ten. Or for Ten to kiss Jack. I really, really do. I'm not holding my breath. Just saying.
Like Ianto, frex, who was nicely snippy throughout the episode and who killed me with his silver teatray for Capt. John's weapons.
I loved the tea tray too. In series 1 I was underwhelmed with Ianto; in series 2 I think he's quite wonderful. I'd maybe be more excited over his relationship with Jack if only we saw more of it - can't blame a girl for hoping.

Me too.
I wish I could just visit you and we could watch Due South together! Rapt attention, yes, and suitable enjoyment, and them maybe watch it a second time.

And I think you were the one who convinced me to get Due South, and I can assure you, I watch with great pleasure and affection. As do my husband and teenboy! But I can't see the slash at all. I like the friendship very much, but it's just not slashy to me. Maybe when we get to Ray Kowalski?

Date: 2008-01-21 01:31 pm (UTC)I don't find Ray Vechhio and Fraser all that slashy - though I can be convinced otherwise by a good enough writer. I'd recommend
Kowalski and Fraser - that's a different story. :) So you haven't got to season 3 yet?

(But I did do a little dance of joy at your Firefly love *g* Yays!)

Date: 2008-01-22 10:51 am (UTC)I do love Firefly, if not with an all-consuming irrational passion. *g* And I didn't cry when Wash died, it was Zoe being to strong and heroic afterwards that got me... Waaaah.

Date: 2008-01-22 12:31 pm (UTC)Zoe's strength really got to me too. She is, as they say, made of awesome.

Uh huh huh, you said "drawers." ;)

Date: 2008-02-15 04:32 pm (UTC)I don't cry at the death of Wash; it just makes me mad.
I cry during Firefly episodes, though. Well, a bit. It's like with Dunnett - the combination of drama and humour doesn't usually make me cry, but it gets me into the story beyond crying. If that makes sense.
