Where do the hours go?

First piece of news: I have a new obsession. Yes, it's reached obsession level, it's official. I am obsessed with Ioan Gruffudd. As Horatio Hornblower in particular, but I wouldn't actually say no to him in any incarnation... This is a brilliant site with tons of video and audio clips - I'm busily downloading and viewing. We must feed our obsession, oh yes we must. /Gollum voice *g*
I feel I must have seen him in something other than Wilde, in which he only has a bit part and is close to unrecognisable anyway. He's a bit of a chameleon, which is something I like in an actor - Viggo Mortensen being the classic example, IMO. *scratches head and ponders previous Ioan sightings on film* Nope, can't come up with any, yet I knew his name and could put a face to it even before the excesses of the last few days'. By “excesses” I mean that I have devoured the first five Hornblower episodes in three days, cheered on Horatio as he progressed from shy stuttering Midshipman to Lieutenant and leader of men, and squeed endlessly over the curls, the look of thoughtful resolve, the uniforms, the slashy subtext... I have even got a very rough draft of a short fic! Heh, I did say it's an obsession. *g*
And this evening the plan was to watch the sixth episode - having finished watching Mutiny at too late an hour last night to watch the second part (Retribution), and having left Horatio in a prison cell about to be court-martialled for mutiny, I can't wait to see how it turns out. Yet at the same time, I almost don't want to watch it - mainly because I know that it's the last episode to feature Archie - and I'm dreading a less than happy ending. Also preying on my mind is the fact that Archie was advancing towards Captain Sawyer when the latter fell down the hatch - was this what Archie intended? And will Horatio try to keep silent about it in order to protect Archie? I'm literally chewing my lower lip in an agony of frustration... I know, I could be watching it instead of typing this. But I ought to go to bed soon, and if I start watching it, I know I lack the willpower to stop before the end. And I need to be lucid for work tomorrow. ::sigh:: I think I'll take the phone off the hook tomorrow evening, though...
The reason I was deprived of today's HH fix was a phonecall from Gordon, an ex from a few years back who is now a very good friend, in spite of a very painful end to the relationship. We have wonderful conversations - based on a shared (very silly) sense of humour and a love of words. He's even a dictionary reader - today we were employing two dictionaries - the Chambers 20th Century (me) and the standard multi-volume Maltese-English dictionary on his end. I learnt two new words - hwyl and ithyphallic - I'll have to see how to work those into future posts. *g* Gordon is also a book geek, though with differences. I am a dedicated re-reader, he almost never rereads. He reads mainly contemporary fiction (so-called "literary" fiction) while I tend to prefer genre fiction (historical and scifi/fantasy). But we get on like a house on fire. Okay, this is the point where everyone goes: Why on earth did you leave him? Well, let’s just say it was complicated. (Yeah, when isn’t it?)
Quick Pixel update before I take myself off to bed. She’s so much better that I can hardly believe it. I keep expecting something to go wrong… The eye is a write-off and I suspect she can feel the pellet in the jaw when she eats – but she’s as lively and perky as she ever was: chasing Billy up the stairs and rocketing out of the catflap in hot pursuit of him, playing with me, purring and being so affectionate that I look at her and get a lump in my throat. :) And the new fence on the roof is up, so she’s confined to the house, the courtyard, terrace and roof, and a couple of neighbouring roofs. Billy and Pablo can still come and go as they please, and I feel happier knowing that the Pix is safe. BTW, she says thank you to everyone who sent good wishes and kisses – and so do I!

Right now I'm contemplating getting Solomon and Gaenor (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000051YMO/qid%3D1096404882/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-1777133-3903845) which is only available in the US. I have always wanted to see it. That's my excuse, anyway...

I'm not surprised that you hadn't heard of Century City (I'm 99.9% positive that was the title)--it lasted only about 5 minutes or so. But they release lots of other failed series on DVD, so maybe Ioan fans will get lucky.
