I am so fucking pissed off! And heavy-hearted and just...gah!

The cat I've been feeding that had five kittens - well, the kittens aren't even two weeks old yet, they're only eleven days old. And this stupid child has taken two of them away from their mother and is refusing to give them back. And her grandmother won't take them away from her and give them back to me so I can return them to their mother - because the stupid child is having a tantrum and it wouldn't be good to upset her further.

I went round to their house to try and get them to put the two kittens back. I was reasonable, explaining that the kittens need to be back with their mother for a while longer, and quite insistant. And I failed dismally. I feel I should have been forceful - should have barged into the house and wrested the kittens from the horrible child and marched off with them. I don't know - now I feel guilty as well as sad.

Why are people so fucking stupid and obstinate and selfish? I feel like crying.

The grandmother probably thinks you're going to keep them for yourself or something. And I'm incredibly irritated by grown-ups that are afraid of a kid throwing a tantrum (who's the adult here, c'mon!).

The two kittens are back with the mother cat, at least for tonight. I wish I could bring them all home, at least till the kittens are old enough to be homed. But I don't have any way of keeping them separate from my three - and Pablo sulked for two years the last time I introduced another cat to the household. He's eight years old now, and I promised myself that I wouldn't put him through that again.

Might try contacting the local cat society (I think there is one) to see if they could take her and the kittens for a few weeks - keep them safe. Once the kittens are homed, I'm planning on getting the mother neutered anyway, and will go on feeding her regularly - I know it's not ideal for her to be on the streets, but unless I can find someone to adopt her, then that's the best I can do.

And yes, I completely agree with you about adults giving in to children who throw tantrums. It's incredibly bad for the child to be allowed to get away with it. This particular child has certainly learnt to use it to her advantage. *sigh*
